StudentSmart is designed as a comprehensive Longitude Data System (LDS) including the K-12 performance reporting solution for the key decision makers at state education agencies and school districts. StudentSmart delivers interactive reports on a rich set of pre-built performance indicators using the latest business intelligence technology accessible through a web-based application portal. Successful development and implementation of the StudentSmart software requires the establishment of a scalable architecture that will support the various components of the Data Warehouse: the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) process, the Data Warehouse environment, and the Presentation or Data Access Environment. StudentSmart includes a pre-built packaged ETL layer. It is important to cleanse the data to help ensure valid, accurate, and up-to-date data values reside in all fields. The ETL layer was designed to accommodate unique business rule needs of each client and can be customized easily without any code changes.
The foundation of any solid reporting and analytical solution is the data model. To serve as the base of our StudentSmart Solution, we have developed a robust and mature data model that is a solid platform while being dynamic enough to incorporate enhancements specific to each client environment. It includes an extensive library of industry standard key performance indicators (KPIs) which map to operational as well as historical analytical requirements.
The StudentSmart Data Model has evolved as a result of engagements at several state education departments and local school districts and currently includes 14 subject areas, more than 150 entities, and more than 1000 attributes. Some of the Subject Areas included in our model are:
